Mike Dudevoir: From Corporate Life to the CrossFit Games

After losing his corporate job, reinventing himself as a gym owner, and battling a debilitating nerve injury, Mike Dudevoir achieved something extraordinary: ninth place in the world at the 2022 CrossFit Games at age 45. Mike shares how resilience, discipline, and the unwavering support of his community helped him turn life's biggest setbacks into his greatest athletic achievement.

What does it take to become one of the fittest people in the world at 45? For Mike Dudevoir, the journey began with a corporate layoff, a chance encounter with CrossFit, and a decision to completely reinvent his life.

A former medical device sales professional and college soccer player, Mike discovered CrossFit in 2012 and immediately fell in love with its intensity, structure, and sense of community. Within a few years, he had traded the corporate world for entrepreneurship, opening The Swamp, a fitness and strength training gym in Swampscott, Massachusetts.

But his journey was anything but smooth. In 2020, as the pandemic forced his gym to close, Mike suffered a debilitating nerve injury that left him in constant pain for months. Facing physical limitations, uncertainty about his recovery, and the emotional toll of isolation, he struggled through one of the darkest periods of his life.

Rather than allowing that experience to define his future, Mike committed himself to recovery and then set an audacious goal: qualify for the CrossFit Games.

In 2022, after a year of relentless training, he did exactly that, ultimately finishing ninth in the world in the men's 45–49 division.

In this episode, Mike joins Scott and Meg to discuss the pivotal moments that shaped his transformation, the sacrifices required to compete at the highest level, the importance of confronting weaknesses rather than avoiding them, and the remarkable role his family and gym community played in his success.

Mike's story is about far more than CrossFit. It's about finding purpose through adversity, refusing to let age define your limits, and discovering that some of life's greatest accomplishments may still lie ahead.

His message to anyone wondering whether it's too late to make a change is simple: Just start moving.
